These publications will keep you updated on news from the Commission about volunteer efforts and upcoming events across the state. Learn about the Commission’s different volunteer initiatives, as well as the members who participate in North Carolina’s numerous community service projects.

State Service Plan

This three-year document provides a vision for the development of volunteer and service initiatives in the State of North Carolina. Developed from feedback gathered by online survey as well as collaborative partner meetings, the "SSP" is an effort to mobilize community resources to address community concerns. Executive Order 41

Executive Order #41, signed by Governor Bev Perdue and Secretary of State Elaine Marshall re-establishes the NC Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. Click here to view the document which outlines the structure, duties and by-laws of the Commission.

Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act of 2009

On April 21, 2009, President Barack Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act at an elementary school in Washington DC. The Serve America Act reauthorizes and expands national service programs administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service by amending the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (NCSA) and the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973 (DVSA). The NC Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service Annual Report

Each year, the Commission publishes an annual report which summarizes accomplishments from the previous calendar year. To view the annual report for 2009, click here. You can also request a copy of the document by emailing volcommission@nc.gov.

Handbook of Volunteer Management

First published in 1979, the Handbook is a step-by-step manual for operating an effective volunteer program. To view the Handbook, click here. If you would like to have a "clean" hardcopy mailed to you, please email volcommission@nc.gov. The document costs $5.00 to cover shipping, and an invoice will accompany your handbook.
